This Molehill page originated in Dutch. A pun was lost in translation. The Dutch word hoop is a homonym—it carries two distinct meanings from different etymological lineages: hoop means both heap and hope.
The Dutch word for molehill is molshoop. Literally, it reads as "mole's heap," but it also echoes "mole's hope," though that phrase is not commonly used (if at all).
This entire page dances around hope as a feeling and a heap of earth. The mole conjures the magic.
Nearly all planetary boundaries have been crossed. That is … um … dangerous. Society’s survival hangs by a thread. Don’t panic! There is hope.

How useful is hope? To what extent does it make us look away from a dark and precarious reality? Darkness can also inspire us to embrace uncertainty, allow epistemic humility and explore the terrain of grief. The mole invites us into her dark burrows. The paths have already been dug. Beyond hope—and beyond the heap.

The road to ecological recovery is long, ambiguous and complex. It is full of twists and burrows. Will you walk with me?
Together, all the pixels on this page tell a story. Perhaps you will recognise the same patterns in the grains of sand in a molehill. With some persistence, you might even see the mole at work.
I am very curious to know how your search for a moving molehill will unfold.
I hope to continue developing this page over the coming years and enrich it with your experiences.
